It's a legend that
seems to be related to the one of the Ipupiara (this
monster attacked Saint Vincent - Sao Vicente - in the
16th century). The older fishermen and the ancient
caiçaras who lived in Itanhaém (caiçaras are the people
who are born in the beach; it's also the mixed
race between the Indian and the White), in solitary
houses almost lost along the vastness of the big beaches,
used to tell that once, a long time ago in the colonial
times of the 16th century, something very weird was seen
by the Indians who lived in a tribe near the beach.
The legend tells us
that, in night of full moon, the Indians (who
never got out of their ocas (tends) without a torch
fearing the devil, the Anhangá that tormented them the
most) were walking along the beach when they saw 3 very
strange creatures of human form but full of scales, all
of them coming out of the sea. Terribly frightened by
the apparition, they all flee away. What they really saw
and what happened afterwards is far beyond any possible
explanation. This legend was constantly told by the
caiçaras that originally inhabited the places along the
Peruíbe Beach, nowadays more commonly referred to as
Cibratel 1 and 2 due to the condos located along the
beach.
