Some people say that
all legends always reflect partially the truth, being
based on real events that once cannot find a possible
explanation, simply becomes...legends. Most of the
Brazilian legends are of Indian origin. The
Indians were the ones who saw strange beings called the
Curupira and the Caipora in the forest.
The Indians were the ones who saw the Anhangá
disguised as a deer with fire in the eyes, protecting
the pray, or even assuming other horrible forms, half
humanoid, half animal; they were the ones who listened
to the birds that came from far away to bring "news"
from their relatives from beyond. And what about the
strange lights seen by the Indians in the forests - as
the Jesuit Joseph of Anchieta had unmistakably remarked
in the 16th century. Would that really be the Boitatá
(the snake of fire)?
So here you'll find
some legends from Itanhaém as well as other ones from
the whole country. Come to find out who the Saci
is. Learn the difference between the Curupira and
the Caipora, both constantly pointed out by most
Jesuits and historians from the 16th century who wrote
about the horror they caused among the Indias who were
constantly injured and even killed in the forest - and
that's why they always carried offerings for them such
as arrows and small gifts no to let them do any harm.
Come to find out why
the Indians were horrified to go out in the dark and
when they had to do so they always carried a torch with
them. Have you ever heard about werewolves on the beach?
Here we've got plenty of them. Come and discover the
history of the marine monster called Ipupiara that
attacked the City of Saint Vincent (São Vicente) in he
16th century . Come with us and learn more about these
legends and other incredible stories - and histories -
we bet you've never heard of!
